The Popularity of Tattoos

The art of tattoo making and getting a tattoo made has existed for a long time in history. For considerable periods of time in history it has gained momentary prominence and then subsided only to rise to the foreground again with little or no revival. A vast number of cultures and societies have tattooing as a part of their tradition or customs.

When the artistic value of tattooing dropped for sometime in history, tattooing survived and prevailed as a means of identification in the form of numbers or alphabets on captives or animals etc.

Today however, we see a today new kind of reformation in the world of tattoos. Adolescents and young adults are very excited about getting their first tattoo made after a celebrity or some design they thoroughly admire. Today, the art of tattooing has become more commercialized. It is a fashion statement. It is a type of beauty agent in the form of body modification. While there are those who are very keen to get a permanent tattoo on their body or face, there is another bunch of people for whom this is just a fad, a teen thing, something that they would like to experiment and shed away. This bunch of people usually goes in for a temporary tattoo as their idea is to simple experiment the experience.

There is a considerable amount of sex appeal attached to the tattoos. The popularity of tattoos among women is loaded by the fact that it makes them feel more confident and sexier and increases their appeal to men. Though the idea of sex appeal differs in men, you cannot completely ignore the fact that men do derive a certain kind of attraction when they have a tattoo on their body or even a body piercing for that matter. Because tattoos are popular they are bound to survive and exist for generations to come.
